Eric Sims Jr. brings that rare depth of perspective to Jones Law Firm as a Senior Attorney.

Eric discovered his calling early, realizing in middle school that the legal system was meant to shield people who needed protection most. After earning his degree in Mathematics from Fort Lewis College, he completed his legal education at Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles. He began his path in public defense as an intern in 1993, joining the Public Defender’s Office full-time upon his admission to the Colorado Bar in 1995. Over eighteen years as a public defender, Eric took on high-stakes litigation, including seven homicide cases, and served on the Colorado Criminal Defense Board. In 2013, he founded his own practice, Flatirons Litigation, running the firm for over a decade before joining Jones Law Firm. Alongside his practice, he has shaped rising trial attorneys as an instructor for CU Boulder’s intersession Trial Advocacy course since 2009.

That deep trial history shapes how Eric approaches family law and criminal defense today. Having navigated the heaviest corners of the court system, he understands how overwhelming legal disputes can feel. He cuts through the chaos of divorces and custody matters with a calm, grounded presence, helping clients separate raw emotion from strategic decisions. Eric believes every person has a story worth telling and a clear moral center. His focus in every consultation is simple: listen intently, offer complete honesty, and build a steady path forward.

What you may not know: Outside the courtroom, Eric stays grounded in the Colorado outdoors as an avid mountain biker and long-time vegetarian. He is married, comes from a close-knit family with four siblings across the state, and shares his home with two pugs named Clementine and Barrister. Beyond his legal career, some of his proudest memories stem from grassroots political activism, having spent time on the ground organizing for national campaigns.
