At Jones Law Firm, PC, our Centennial child support lawyers work out how bonuses, commissions, and RSUs will likely be counted before any numbers reach the court. Since 2000, our attorneys have handled more than 4,000 family law matters across Arapahoe County. The firm is led by April D. Jones, Vice President of the Colorado Bar Association and its incoming 2027 President.
Colorado sets child support through the income shares guidelines, which start with both parents’ combined gross income and adjust for overnights, health insurance premiums, and childcare costs. Support is usually decided inside a larger case, so the full picture of your divorce matters alongside the support number.
Under Colorado Revised Statutes § 14-10-115, shared physical care applies when each parent has the children for more than 92 overnights per year, which changes how support is calculated. That threshold and the way variable pay is averaged can move the final figure in either direction.
Our attorney-plus-paralegal teams appear regularly in the 18th Judicial District Court at the Arapahoe County Justice Center in Centennial.

How Is Child Support Calculated In Centennial, Colorado?
To calculate child support, Colorado uses an income shares model. The court adds both parents’ gross monthly incomes, finds the basic obligation on the statutory schedule, and splits it by each parent’s share of combined income. Centennial cases go through the 18th Judicial District Court, but the same statewide formula applies.
Bonuses, commissions, and RSUs count as gross income and are often averaged across recent years. When combined income exceeds the top of the schedule, the court decides the amount within its discretion.
Getting the order right also matters after it is entered. Under Colorado Revised Statutes § 14-14-106, unpaid child support accrues interest at 12% per year, so arrears grow the longer they go unpaid.

What Happens To My Child Support Order If I Or The Other Parent Moves Out Of Colorado?
A move out of state does not cancel a Colorado child support order. Under the Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA), Colorado generally keeps exclusive authority to modify the order while either parent or the child still lives here. Payments stay due on the existing schedule.
Enforcement also crosses state lines. An income withholding order can go directly to an out-of-state employer, and once the order is registered in the new state, unpaid support becomes arrears that the new state must enforce.
A relocation often raises two more issues. A parent who moves and takes a lower-paying job voluntarily may have income imputed under C.R.S. § 14-10-115. A move also typically changes overnights, so support and the parenting time schedule are usually revisited together.
If every party leaves Colorado, authority to modify the order generally shifts to another state, unless both parents consent in writing or in open court to keep it here. Raise any planned move before anyone files so the case stays in the court best placed to protect your children’s support.
