“One great aspect of the April Jones law firm is that we fight for you . I had a client who had lost the ability to have parenting time with his child during the start of the divorce proceedings. He was struggling with alcohol during the marriage. His attempts to self-medicate were exaggerated and being used against him; he did not drink while the children were awake. His former partner painted a false picture of his behavior towards her and the children. He came to the Jones Law Firm just wanting to be a Father to his children.  We initially obtained supervised Parenting Time.  He fought and worked on his sobriety, and by the Permanent Orders, we were able to restore overnight supervision, despite the wishes of the Mother.”

Client Success Stories

Many marriages have one parent staying at home for financial and caretaking reasons. Divorce can bring out greed, and parties often attempt to devalue the stay-at-home parent financially. I had a client who left the workforce to be a stay-at-home caretaker for her children.  The relationship ended, and Husband did not want to place any value on Mother staying at home with the children. Father was the primary source of income and attempted to devalue mother’s contributions. Husband did not want to share assets acquired during the marriage or the equity within the home. In that scenario, we had a full trial (Permanent Orders Hearing). Maintenance was awarded, Child support was awarded, a portion of his retirement was given to his wife, and half the equity in the house was awarded. The client was thankful that we fought for her.

Client Success Stories

The ability to negotiate and settle cases is very important to many families going through a divorce proceeding. In a recent case, we fought hard for the father to have the amount of money being requested by the opposing party reduced and to be a part of his children’s daily lives. The demands from the mother were not fair, and the children were valued more as a financial chip for negotiation than for their best interests, which we understand under Colorado law.  Despite the initial demands being so unreasonable, the parties ultimately settled after a 12-hour mediation session. Our client was ecstatic, as he was able to avoid a long, drawn-out court proceeding, spend time with his children, and be part of everyday decision-making.
