April D. Jones Receives CWBAF “Courageous Leader of Today” Award
On September 16, 2026, the Colorado Women’s Bar Association Foundation CWBAF honored April D. Jones, Founder and CEO of Jones Law Firm, PC, with the 2026 “Courageous Leader of Today” Award at its annual Raising the Bar dinner in Denver.
Presented before an audience of judges, attorneys, and legal community leaders, the award recognizes women in Colorado law who demonstrate sustained institutional leadership, judicial advocacy, and organizational growth.
About the CWBAF and the Raising the Bar Honors
The Colorado Women’s Bar Association Foundation CWBAF promotes educational and charitable projects that advance women in the legal profession. Through its annual Raising the Bar event, the Foundation honors attorneys and judicial officers whose work shapes state legal policy, improves access to justice, and mentors incoming practitioners.
The CWBAF’s “Courageous Leader of Today” pillar specifically highlights legal executives managing major organizations while actively driving system-wide improvements across Colorado courts and bar associations.
Award Presentation and Keynote Introductions
The ceremony was emceed by Hon. Melissa Hart, former Colorado Supreme Court Justice and CWBAF Board member, who shared reflections on April’s impact across the state’s legal landscape before inviting April’s husband, Daryl Jones, to join in presenting the award.
In their opening remarks, the presenters highlighted Jones’s 25-year career building one of the largest family law practices in the region, alongside her deep history of service across local and statewide legal institutions.
The introduction noted her previous leadership as President of the Sam Cary Bar Association and her election as incoming President of the Colorado Bar Association, where she will serve as the first Black woman to hold the position.
Acceptance Speech: Career Iterations and Professional Ownership
In her acceptance speech, Jones addressed the judges, colleagues, and legal professionals in attendance, reflecting on the balance between building a multi-location firm, raising three children, and maintaining active bar service.
“What really struck me in this room today is how it is filled with women who have touched every stage of my career,” Jones said. “It is so important that as women, we figure out what speaks to us professionally and personally, and make that happen. Don’t let the world make you happen. Make what matters to you the cornerstone of how you show up.”
Jones reflected on founding Jones Law Firm 25 years ago with young children at home, noting how structured operational systems allowed the practice to scale while keeping family commitments central.
“I have had my law firm for 25 years, and it has had so many iterations,” Jones noted. “At this point in my career, I feel like I have done the work, and now it is time to do the job.”
Continued Bar and Judicial Advisory Service
The CWBAF recognition adds to a year of significant appointments for Jones. In addition to preparing for her term as President of the Colorado Bar Association Colorado Bar Association, she was recently appointed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Monica M. Márquez to the state’s Legal Technology Advisory Committee.
